Brownsboro Hardware's EggFEST back for 14th year

The latest breaking updates, delivered straight to your email inbox.

Dozens of professional and amateur chefs will square off in three cooking competitions to fight hunger in Kentucky.

Brownsboro Hardware and Paint will host its 14th annual Big Green EggFEST Food Festival on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, starting at 6 p.m., five groups of “EggHead” amateur chefs will compete in the People's Choice competition, where the audience decides who the winner is.

Jon Baughman, with Big Green Tacos, will be competing with his team for the third time.

"We'll have all the meat. Salmon, brisket, steak, and pulled pork tacos, and chicken, of course," Baughman said.

Big Green Tacos has yet to take home a trophy, but hopes this year will be their year.

"We've tweaked our recipes, and we're ready," Baughman said.

The other competition happening on Friday night is the Chopped cook-off. The competition will be between three local, professional chefs.

Starting at 7 p.m., the chefs will get a box of food and have 90 minutes to prepare an appetizer, an entrée and a dessert.

Then on Saturday, EggFEST will host its beef and pork cooking competition from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"It's a lot of fun," Doug Carroll, owner of Brownsboro Hardware and Paint, said. "We'll have 70 eggs going. It's tons of just backyard grillers showing off what they can do, and just tons of great food you get to enjoy.”

The best part, according to participants is the cause that benefits from this two-day event.

Both Kentucky Harvest and A Recipe to End Hunger will split 100% of the proceeds to eliminate food waste.

Heather Stewart, executive director of Kentucky Harvest, said most of the money raised will help offset the cost of transportation.

"We have a refrigerated truck, a box truck and two cargo vans that keep us on the road each and every day rescuing food. So, a lot of fuel, a lot of maintenance," Stewart said.

Tickets for Friday night are $30 online and $35 at the door. On Saturday, tickets are $20 online and $25 at the door.

Kids 12 and under get in free on both days.
