More Than 1,500 Brockton Households Without Power

BROCKTON, MA — There are 1,593 households in Brockton currently without power in the aftermath of Thursday night's thunderstorms, the city tweeted at 10:55 a.m. Friday.

Officials said they estimate that the restoration efforts by the National Grid will complete at 12 p.m.

Brockton is under a heat advisory in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday, with heat index values expected to reach 98, according to the National Weather Service.

There is a cooling center open at the Brockton Public Library on 304 Main Street between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., officials said.

The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency is urging anyone exposed to high temperatures to take measures to protect themselves and those around them. Key safety measures to prevent heat exhaustion and heat stroke include the following:
